Drawings

Cities, spaces, stories held within structures, memories etched into wood and concrete. Most of the drawings below are made with oil pastel and graphite on Duralar.

To make these drawings, I start with a sketch or photo on site. The way I work is somewhere between drawing and painting, with a mixture of brushes, scratching tools, erasers, fingers, and even q-tips!

In the studio I use a semi transparent film called Duralar, add layers of oil pastel on the front and back to build up colours, and mark in lines or tones with graphite.

There is usually an object or detail hidden in the picture to leave a clue or spark your imagination. I often wonder what stories you imagine about the places in my work!
